International Community & Chinese Government Vigorously Push E-Commerce Forward

E-commerce makes big leap forward. In recent years, with the explosive growth of Internet worldwide, E-commerce has become the hottest spot. Presently, nearly one million companies and over 1,500 banks have become its beneficiaries. The Internet transactions worldwide have registered a marked progress. The global record in 1997 hit 8 billion US dollars, and the expected value in the year 2000 will top 450 billion US dollars. E-commerce has huge potential. The international community and governments of various countries have, one after another, take action: the UN, the EU, and the United States, for example, have in succession formulated guidelines for promoting E-commerce.

Entering 1990s, the Chinese government has launched a series of information infrastructure projects, including the golden Bridge Project, the Golden Card Project, the Golden Customs Project, and the golden Tax Project. All of these give impetus to the development of E-commerce in China. Up to now, the Information Port Project in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, etc., is under vigorous construction. In October 1998, the Golden Trade Project centered on E-business was put into operation. It will build up a pretty comprehensive e-business system by taking advantage of the already launched Golden Series Projects and the electronic transaction system of the People's Bank of China. As a result, the use of E-business will greatly help China's enterprises enter national and global market.

Market Size of E-Commerce in China is Promising

Since 1995, the information highway centered on network has recorded with an annual growth rate of 30% to 40% in China. It is estimated that in the fifteen years from 1996 to 2010, the funds used in information construction by all walks of life will increase to 1,500 billion yuan, and by 2000, the market size of E-commerce in China will reach 150 billion yuan (18 billion US dollars).
